Whimsical Winter Landscape Fabric Art

Sharing is caring!

Our students really enjoyed making their whimsical, winter-wonderland fabric art! With this sewing project, each of them were able to use their imagination and create a neutral tone, snowy mountain landscape scene.

The  students were supplied with different colors and textures of fabric, ribbon, and lace to create a winter scene of their dreams. Perhaps they were thinking of skiing, sledding, tossing snowballs, making snowmen, or sipping cocoa by a fire. These scenic winter beauties that our students created were loved by everyone in their family, and became a calming welcome addition to the winter holiday decor in their homes. For example, Mariel’s arctic landscape (below) hangs above a fireplace in her guest room.

I love how Maeve (above) embraced the raw edges of the fabric to create the pine trees in her winter scene fabric art piece. I actually asked her if I could buy it! She said no of course. After all, most of the students gifted these beautiful pieces of fabric art to their parents. I particularly adore how primitive and whimsical her fabric art looks.

I love the simplicity of this student’s winter scene as shown above. Its rustic design would nicely complement farmhouse country decor. The student combined lace, chenille fabric, warm and natural quilt batting, and fabric from a repurposed shower curtain to create the snow covered sky, hills, and ground. The eye naturally focuses on the different fabric shades of greenery she picked for the pine trees.

As much as you can feel the chill in the air as you look at Jolene’s wintery scene with how she used different textures of white and cream fabric to create her snow, you can also feel the warmth from the faint light peaking through the window created by the fireplace in the log cabin.
