Proud Rustic Thanksgiving Turkey Craft – Step 1

Cutting out pattern pieces for turkey craft

You are going to start by cutting out your turkey pattern from a double layer of white muslin fabric. A double layer so that way you get two of the pattern. We have provided a Thanksgiving Turkey Pattern for you!

Proud Rustic Thanksgiving Turkey Craft – Step 2

Sewing edges of fabric turkey

After you have cut out your pieces you are going to pin around the edges of both your body pieces and your feather pieces together. Then sew all the way around the edge of your fabric pressure foot edge on both your body and wing. Make sure to leave an opening so that you can turn and stuff it later. After you are done sewing you can go and trim all your edges making sure that you don’t cut your stitches.

Proud Rustic Thanksgiving Turkey Craft – Step 3

Turn your fabric turkey right side out and sew the extra line details.

Now you are going to turn your turkey body and wing pretty side out. Then, sew two 4″ vertical lines on the turkey to create your feathers. Sew two 2″ horizontal lines across the wings to create your feathers. The image above shows this step if you are confused.

Painting the feathers of turkey

Now you are going to paint the feathers. You are going to paint one feather red, one gold, and one orange. Then, paint the beak gold. Next using a stain mixture of 1/4 cup of instant coffee mixed with 1 cup of warm water and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon paint the whole turkey body and wing on both sides. Place both on a cookie sheet covered in foil and bake until dry at 170 degrees. You may want to flip the pieces every once in awhile to keep from burning. Keep a good eye on it. As you can see in the picture above some of the sections of my turkey are burnt I did this on purpose because I happen to like the look. To get this effect I just didn’t turn them the entire time they were doing therefore the parts that were on the foil “burned” a little bit.

Add a face and bow to your fabric turkey

Then, cut a 1″ piece of red fabric or felt into the shape of a gobbler and hot glue onto your turkey’s neck area. Now using a black permanent marker make an eye and eyebrow on both sides of your turkey’s face. After that you are going to hand sew your wing onto the side of your turkey. Lastly using raffia, ribbon, or ripped cotton fall fabric hot glue a bow on the front of the turkey.

You are now finished your Rustic Proud Thanksgiving Turkey! It is going to look great on your table this Thanksgiving.
