sewing hot pad pieces together

Then place the two hot pad quilt batting pieces on a flat surface. Put the two fabric hot pad pieces PRETTY SIDES TOGETHER. Place the fabric pieces on top of the quilt batting pieces. Pin around all four edges and through all four thicknesses.

trimming seams of hot pad

After pinning stitch around the outer edge of your hot pad going through all four layers.  Leave an opening on one side large enough to turn your hot pad pretty side out. Clip corners, and trim seams making sure not to cut your stitches. Then turn your hot pad pretty side out.  At this point if you want your hot pad to have the scent of fall, add 1 teaspoon of whole cloves inside your hot pad.

Next pull out your corners, and press your hot pad nice and flat.  Hand stitch the opening closed.  Finally, straight stitch 2 lines down your pumpkin as shown in the photo.  This gives “quilts” your hot pad and gives it a 3D looking effect.

Your Quilted Autumn Scented Pumpkin Hot Pad is now finished! To keep the hot pad scented from year to year, store in a plastic bag when not in use.
