I LOVE THAT EVERYONE CAN USE THESE RAGGEDY QUILTED AUTUMN COASTERS! HERE IS WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO MAKE THEM:

  • small pieces of autumn fabric (homespun rags work best)
  • scraps of quilt batting (warm & natural is our favorite)
  • basic sewing supplies

Raggedy Quilted Autumn Coasters – Step 1

Cutting out squares to use to make coasters

Start by cutting 8 squares of fabric measuring 6 1/2″ X 6 1/2″. Then cut 4 squares of quilt batting measuring 4 1/2″ X 4 1/2″.

Raggedy Quilted Autumn Coasters – Step 2

putting all the pieces for coater together

Now you are going to sandwich a piece of quilt batting in between two pieces of fabric as shown in the photo above. Do this for all of your fabric squares and you should end up having four of these.

Raggedy Quilted Autumn Coasters – Step 3

Sew an X across all of your layers to hold the pieces together

Next you are going to sew from one corner of your square to the other. Then make an “X” by sewing from the other side of the coaster diagonally to the other opposite side so that each coaster has an “X” sewn through it as shown in the photo above. After that sew a 1″ border around the square to prevent the ragging from passing that stitch line.

Adding ragging to edges of coater by cutting slits

To finish off your raggedy coaster add slits all the way around your coasters making sure not to cut past that stitch border you did. The tinnier the slits the more raggedy your coasters will look. Then wash your coasters in cold water and dry them in the dryer.
