How to make a Fabric Witch Hat Candle Ring

With a little bit of time and little bits of left-over fabric scraps from your fall crafting and fall quilting projects, you can make this prim witch’s hat candle ring to wrap around your favorite fall scented candles in no time at all! This makes a charming hostess gift, teacher gift, housewarming gift or birthday gift for your BFF to give during the crisp cool autumn days. Make a fabric candy corn, buy a fall candle, and you have yourself a nice handmade and thoughtful gift for that someone special.

ADD A SPOOKY TWIST TO ANY OF YOUR CANDLES WITH THIS FABRIC WITCH HAT CANDLE RING. HERE IS WHAT YOU NEED TO MAKE IT:

• 6″ square piece of quilt batting (warm & natural is our favorite)
• 1/2″ black elastic
• Small pieces of autumn fabric (orange & black)
• Black ribbon, yarn, or lace for the hat decoration
• Black buttons
• Basic sewing supplies

LET’S GET THIS WICKED WITCH HAT STARTED!

WITCH HAT CANDLE RING – STEP 1

Here is our WITCH HAT PATTERN; from our pattern cut out two witch hat pieces using pinking shears.

We are using pinking shears to keep your fabric from fraying.

WITCH HAT CANDLE RING – STEP 2

Using regular scissors cut out one layer of quilt batting.

Once it is cut out trim around the entire pumpkin to make it smaller.

WITCH HAT CANDLE RING – STEP 3

Sandwich the quilt batting between the two witch hat pieces as shown.

WITCH HAT CANDLE RING – STEP 4

Pin pieces together with pretty sides facing outwards and batting in between them.

WITCH HAT CANDLE RING – STEP 5

Add ribbon for flare and then stitch all the way around the witch hat, going through all layers of fabric.

WITCH HAT CANDLE RING – STEP 6

Measure around the candle jar and cut the elastic.

If you are using a large Yankee Candle jar as I did, I cut my elastic 12.5″.

WITCH HAT CANDLE RING – STEP 7

Overlap the elastic by 1″.

Pin.

Stitch in place.

WITCH HAT CANDLE RING – STEP 8

Attach the elastic to the back of the witch’s hat and stitch in place.

WITCH HAT CANDLE RING – STEP 9

Lastly, hand sew a button in place on the band of the witch’s hat.

Wrap your little witch’s hat candle ring around your favorite fall scented candle.

My favorite is Yankee Candle’s “Autumn Leaves” scent!

Use your fabric witch hat as a cake topper. Just add a wooden skewer to the back and place on the cake! Thread some ribbon, twine, or embroidery thread through the top back for a cute hanging ornament.
