What a fun and exciting challenge this Fabric Suitcase Workshop, “To Grandmother’s House We Go!” was! Students were able to pick their pre-quilted fabric, coordinating lining fabric, and the colorful fabric for their inside pocket. The students learned new skills like sewing with layers of heavy weight fabrics, how to sew an industrial zipper, how to line the suitcase, and more. Our instructors had to do the last step in sewing the suitcase together and adding the bias tape around the edges. That step required lots of muscle and strength to get the stiff awkward suitcase through the machine and the students were not strong enough to do that task.
The end results were amazing and the students had their suitcases done in time for their summer trips to places like the Jersey shore, Tennessee, Disney World, and the Caribbean.
